A Long Absence

Gosh, it sure has been a while.

I won't make any excuses for my summer-long absence, but it is my hope that I can maybe bring this blog back from complete inactivity this semester.  Senior year... it's hard to believe!

Good luck to all of us!

Hands and Feet

This poor blog has seen so little action lately.  I am alive somehow and I promise I'm doing work.
To prove it here is a lousy picture I took with my phone of the state of my room the night before my Anatomy portfolio was due.  So. Many. Handsandfeet.

Also whoa blogger this new look is weird.

Sink Test

Quick test for a short(?) project I have started working on.  I love doing little tests.  I think I love them too much actually, since often times I will stop in the middle of something and then fiddle around with doing some arbitrary testing stuff for waaayyy too long.  Oh well!

disclaimer:  watching for too long may make you have to pee

Sail Across My Shadow

Inspired by a song lyric and also all of the amazing gifs that have been cropping up on the internet lately.  They are such a nifty little format to work in.  Hopefully I will get better at them with more practice (and maybe make them less huge)

Bloom(ington)

Hello hello!
I apologize for the long absence, but I am afraid that the weeks leading up to spring break kept me insanely occupied.  Not to mention that following such busy times I was away in England for a bit!!  It was such a fun trip, and despite having little time to relax it has rejuvenated me and my creative self!
I'm sorry that I don't have anything particularly new or interesting to show at the moment, so I dug up this random flower gif that I had been playing with (and clearly lost interest in) back around Valentine's day.  Seems pretty appropriate at the moment though considering that here in Bloomington we are having 80 degree days in March.
Spring is in the air, let's all take a second (or a lot of seconds) to enjoy it!

Yowayowa Inspired

Bit of a warm-up/exercise thing directly referenced from this beautiful photo
I just stumbled upon this website today and I am completely and utterly in love.  Her pictures are just so whimsical and fun, and all of the colors are so great and her outfits are always so cute and GOSH.
Perfect inspiration blog.

Expression Apple

Holy moly has it really been two whole weeks since the last time I posted something?? How does that even happen?
This semester is proving to be keeping me as busy as I had predicted, but I'm going to try to post some more interesting things soon!  This is just something I made in class today while experimenting with adding Expressions to stuff in After Effects.  I never knew code could be used like that in that program!  I used some code from here to add the swaying to this little apple that I animated.  Super tiny and uninteresting, but it's all part of a (slightly) bigger project that I'll be working on :)

The Plot Thickens...

except not really.

Added a bit more to this animation.
Where is she?  What is it she's looking at? What will happen next??
Not even I know the answers!

Film Stuff??

Some possible scenes from my new project maybe??
I am trying to figure out the right pallet and it is really giving me a hard time.  I knew this would happen when I chose to do a story that takes place mostly at night, but I think it will also be a great opportunity to try to animate some really interesting things!

Final Stretch

My typical evening wear.
It also doubles as my uniform/battle armor for loooong nights of working on stuff.

Sleep is still very far away...

Year of the Dragon

Happy Chinese New Year!

Trying some new things out with this one.

Obelisk Plains and Seaweed Forest

Working on building environments is something I hardly EVER do, and as an aspiring animator that is... not good.  So I am trying to do more with creating space as well as utilizing color to push the mood.  Even if it's just a rough scribbly doodle thing I think it is a good exercise.  I also think it's pretty fun, actually!

Turnin' Heads

Itty bitty little snippet of animation I did this evening.
Done partly for fun, partly for practice, and partly for conceptual purposes.  Nothing special but I figured I should post some things while I have the time and am able.

I foresee this semester being the busiest one yet!!

Red Scarves and Red Noses

Oh hey, I still draw digitally from time to time!
Apologies for the long absence, but finals happened and then I got sick and then the holiday blah blah.

I hope everyone else had/is having a good holiday!  Stay warm!

Water Color

Image heavy post ahead!
(also some nudity in case that matters)

And here is another batch of water color pieces done in my drawing 301 class this Fall.  I have got to say, I was VERY pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying that class, and also by just how much I learned!  I really love water color as a media and the kind of feeling and look it can give a person or object when you just let it do its own thing.  But most of all I think it seriously helped me to further my understanding of color.  Beautiful but unforgiving, water color forced me to really think about my choices and SEE what kind of colors were happening in whatever it was I was painting.  Valuable lessons were learned!

Once again I am so sorry for the terrible quality photos.  I tried using the auto correctors in Photoshop to bring back some of the color but bleh :\

Wishing Planet

My final project for this semester's digital art class

Wishing Planet from Sydni Gregg on Vimeo.

I worked really hard to apply all of the things I've been learning about Flash and animation in general to this project, and as a whole the end result was something I was very proud of.  I got some great feedback in my critique which is always welcome, since now I know what to play closer attention to for my next video.  Just overall I learned so, SO much from making this and I can't get over how happy I am about that.  Truly a testament to the fact that the best way to learn is by DOING.  Nobody ever got anywhere by doing nothing, right?

Speaking of which, my next little film thing will be my first project as a member of the Digital Art BFA department!  Yaaaayyy!  I am extremely excited to be a part of that group and my mind is already swirling with all the possibilities of where my next project can take me.

Anyway, finals are next week so I'm not quite out of the woods yet.  I am really looking forward to a relaxing winter/holiday break to rejuvenate and rest up for a busy Spring semester.  Gotta keep the ball rolling!  Good luck to all of you other busy students out there as well.  Finish strong!
