Cacti Tragedy

It has been a very long time since my last post.
As an apology, please enjoy this comic.  It is based off of real-life events but never fear, Bonnie was alright in the end.  I had to catch her as she fell off the window sill, but I know that the injuries I sustained must have been nothing compared to what Clyde went through that day.

This was a lot more interesting/funny when I was planning it in my head.

The Time is Now!

Summertime that is!

Now I'm not a huge fan of double-posting or whatever, but I feel like what I wrote over on my tumblr is also worth dropping over here -

It is time to let summer begin. Time to buy a new pair of flip-flops and put away the skinny jeans. Time to make some new friends and keep plans with old ones. Time to catch up on sleep and get a summery haircut. And more than anything it is time to have some f***ing. Fun.
Let’s do this people. Get out there and have a good time or so help me, I guess I’ll have to do it for you.

Seriously.
I am so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired of, well, everything.  I am using this summer as a beautiful opportunity to just enjoy myself and rejuvenate.  It was an eventful, exhausting, productive, and above all busy year for me.   Time to kick back, get a job, do some art (it never stops!) and take more naps.  I'm keeping shit simple, and that's just the way I like it.

Oh, and the actual art-related posts will be making a comeback in the near future!  Who'da thought?

ps.  My tumblr is basically dead.  I really like wasting huge chunks of time looking at other people's tumblr blogs, but I honestly don't have the energy/attention span to keep up my own.

Short Films

Well folks, I'm thinkin' now is finally the time.  Here are the first three stop motion animation projects I did over the course of the semester.  I've already talked a little bit about them in pasts posts but I just want to say again how much I enjoyed making them and I can't wait til I have time to make more!

Yyyyup.  There you have it.

One more final to go then I am home free for the summer!

Just a Moment

Oh my gosh.  I have been so very, very stressed lately.
You know how sometimes you feel like you have SO much to do that just the very idea of all that work sort of paralyzes you with fear, and as a consequence you end up doing close to nothing at all?
Story of my life.

Anyway, I still feel really bad about leaving my blog empty for a whole week.  I didn't even realize until yesterday it had been that long.  Unfortunately I have nothing new or interesting to show, so I looked through my files and found this old sketch that I still kind of liked.  It has been generously cropped in order to spare you all my hideous neglect to human proportioning.

I think it may be worth revisiting in the future.

By the way, over the last few weeks since my angsty Thinkin' post I have been immersing myself in research about the more technical aspects of animation.  I still feel pretty strongly that learning the craft itself, as in the literal drawing and understanding of movement is best done through practice and real-life observation, but it's still nice to know that there is a set of "rules" to fall back on whenever I'm stuck.  Lately I've been pouring over forums and creeping heavily on more student animations trying to learn about different compositing methods, and observing just how people implement them in their final product.

The quality of work that student-level artists out there are able to produce continues to blow me away, and it's always amazing to discover that there are just so many different ways to go about animating, each format with its own unique benefits.

I'm learning more everyday!

On Second Thought...

Yeah...
I realize now that it was sort of less-than-wise of me to take on a daily drawing routine at this particular point in the semester.  There's only like a month left of school and so of course every class has started piling on the end of semester tests and assignments like none other.  I feel weirdly guilty about leaving my blog so empty for so long which is why I am making this post, and also because it's not like I don't actually have at least an hour of free time each day.  It's just, since I'm extra busy right now I tend to use that hour to sleep, or do laundry, or do more homework, or get ice cream with my friends and junk.  You know?

I don't think that necessarily means my priorities as an artist are out of order.  I think it just means that I am a college student.

I'm gonna try to recommence that daily drawing mentality once finals are over and I am back in the comfort of my own home.  Perhaps there will be a handful of posts sprinkled about until then, but I don't expect they will be much.

I once again extend some encouragement to all the other sleep-deprived and caffeine-fueled students out there!  The goal is in sight, let's all dig in and keep doing the best we can!
